What Are Specialty Contact Lenses?
Custom fit lenses of various materials and designs improve vision for those with medical conditions which leave the cornea distorted or irregular. Orthokeratology, or Overnight Vision Correction, is the use of custom lenses to temporarily re-shape the cornea and reduce dependence on glasses or contact lenses. Keratoconus is just one such condition for which custom contact lenses can be very helpful and may postpone the need for corneal transplant surgery.
What We Do
We are able to create custom lenses that patients wear while sleeping. These lenses are removed upon waking and the person experiences clear vision throughout the day with no need for correction. The retainer lenses are re-inserted at bedtime to maintain the reshaping effect. The lenses may need to be worn nightly and the effect is temporary. Vision will return to baseline levels when lenses are discontinued.
