Low Vision

Low Vision is impaired vision caused by a number of conditions (including macular degeneration, glaucoma, retinitis pigmentosa, etc.) that significantly reduces visual function which is not correctable with pharmaceutical, surgical interventions, conventional glasses or contact lenses.

Low vision care involves the evaluation of residual or remaining vision, and the possible benefit from magnification. Magnification can be provided through the use of high power reading glasses, hand held magnifiers, telescopes, and close circuit television units (CCTV). Additional care may be provided by rehabilitation teachers, mobility/orientation specialists, occupational therapists, and other professionals.
